무대 예술인 그룹 `시선(Seasun)은 미국 캘리포니아에서 2019 년 3 월 3 일 3.1 만세운동 과 임시정부 수립 100 주년을 기념하여 올려진 뮤지컬 도산”의 기획, 대본, 총감독을 맡은 클라라 신과 작곡을 맡은 두 작곡가 신원철과 윤국형 이렇게 세사람을 중심으로 세워진 Non-Profit Organization 입니다.
2024년 부터는 대표이자 책임 프로듀서인 클라라 김 신 과 후원 이사장 김동수 (Dr. Chris Kim) 체재로 운영 중이다.

시선은 미국 캘리포니아에서 활동하는 음악가, 뮤지컬 배우, 연극배우를 포함하여 무대예술을 사랑하는 이들이 함께 뜻을 모아 세운 문화예술 단체이며 “문화는 삶을 담는 그릇이다” 라는 말에 맞도록 그들이 지향하는 바는 우리 삶의 이야기와 역사적 사실들을 교육할수 있는 작품들을 시대적 요청에 맞게 재조명하여 무대에 올림으로 해외에서 예술을 통해 대한민국을 알리고 가르칠수 있는 단체가 되고자 합니다.

지난 2019 년 3 월 3 일 로마린다 대학 공연에서는 1000 여명이상의 관객을, 3 월 9 일 LA 한국문화원 Ari Project 으로 이루어진 공연에 관객의 신청이 넘쳐 한국문화원 공연 역사상 처음으로 하루 2 번의 공연을 올리게 됐습니다.

연이어 8 월 10 일 도산 안창호 선생이 세운 흥사단과 함께 준비한 LA 윌셔 이벨 극장 에서 펼쳐진 재 공연에서는 티켓판매 1238 석 전석 매진의 동포 사회의 성공적인 신화를 이루며 도산 안창호 선생의 독립운동과정과 그분의 사상을 전하는 것은 물론 3.1 만세운동, 유관순열사의 죽음, 안중근의사의 거사, 임시정부의 통합과정, 윤봉길 의사의 거사 까지 일제시대에 우리가 일본에게 나라를 빼앗긴 조국을 찾기 위해 국내와 해외에서 독립운동을 했는지에 대해서 배우고 깨닫고 함께 울며 그 감격을 나눌수 있는 시간 있었습니다. 무엇보다 애국가가 울려 퍼지는 가운데 펼쳐지는 태극기 군무는 뮤지컬 도산을 관람하는 모든 관객들이 한마음이 되어 하나의 마음과 뜻을 품은 대한민국을 꿈꾸는 시간이 되었습니다.

무대예술인 그룹 시선은 Non-Profit Organization 으로 모든 공연으로 이루어지는 공연 수익으로 이민 문화계 발전을 위해 음악과 연극, 뮤지컬을 공부하는 학생들에게 장학금을 지급, 전 미주와 세계로 뻗어 나가며 대한민국을 알리는 문화계를 이끌어 나갈 젊은 인재들를 양성 하는데 힘쓰려 합니다.

Seasun Theatre Artist Group is a nonprofit organization founded in California on March 3, 2019, centered around three key individuals: Clara Shin Kim, who served as the producer, playwright, and artistic director of Musical Dosan, which was presented in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the March 1st Independence Movement and the establishment of the Korean Provisional Government, and composers Woncheol Shin and KukHyung Yun.
Beginning in 2024, Seasun has been operating under the leadership of Clara K. Shin as President and Executive Producer, with Dr. Chris D. Kim serving as Chairman of the Board.

Seasun is a cultural arts organization established by musicians, musical theater actors, stage actors, and individuals passionate about the performing arts who are active throughout California. Guided by the belief that “culture is a vessel that carries life,” Seasun is dedicated to re-examining stories from our lives and historical truths through the lens of contemporary relevance. By bringing these works to the stage, Seasun seeks to educate, inspire, and introduce the history and spirit of Korea to international audiences through the power of the arts.

On March 3, 2019, Seasun’s performance at Loma Linda University attracted an audience of over 1,000 people. This was followed by a performance on March 9 at the Korean Cultural Center Los Angeles as part of the ARI Project. Due to overwhelming public demand, the Center presented two performances in one day—marking the first time in its performance history that such an arrangement was made.

Subsequently, on August 10, a revival production was presented at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre in Los Angeles in collaboration with Heungsadan (Young Korean Academy), the organization founded by Dosan Ahn Chang-ho. All 1,238 seats were sold out, creating a landmark moment within the Korean American community. Through this production, audiences were able to learn about and reflect upon the independence movement led by Dosan Ahn Chang-ho and his philosophy, as well as pivotal historical moments such as the March 1st Movement, the martyrdom of Yu Gwan-sun, the heroic acts of Ahn Jung-geun and Yun Bong-gil, and the unification process of the Korean Provisional Government. The performances offered a powerful, emotional space where audiences could collectively remember, learn, and share in the sacrifices made both in Korea and abroad to reclaim a nation lost during the Japanese colonial era.
In particular, the Taegeukgi flag choreography performed as the Korean national anthem resonated throughout the theater, uniting the audience in a shared sense of identity and hope for a unified and enduring Korea.

As a nonprofit organization, Seasun Theatre Artist Group reinvests all performance proceeds into the advancement of immigrant and cultural arts communities. This includes providing scholarships to students studying music, theater, and musical theater, and supporting the development of young artists who will carry Korean culture forward across the United States and around the world.
